Five guides. One philosophy. Walk with intention.
In 2011, Sarah McKenzie stood on a coastal headland watching tour buses discharge passengers for seven-minute photo stops. Selfies taken, they left—never noticing the whale migration corridor below or the wartime lookout hidden in the scrub.
She thought: what if we slowed down?
What if instead of checkpoints, we offered immersion? Instead of facts, we shared stories? Instead of crowds, we created space for genuine discovery?
That question became Scarlet Bark.
We believe walking is a radical act in an accelerated world. It demands you meet the land at its own pace. Notice details. Earn your perspectives through exertion.
Six people maximum. Not for profitability—for intimacy. When someone asks a question, everyone benefits. When you pause to photograph a lyrebird, we all wait. This isn't scalable. That's the point.
Our team aren't performers reading scripts. They're naturalists, historians, and conservationists who walk these trails weekly. Their knowledge emerges from deep relationship with place, not certification courses.
We don't do limited-time offers or scarcity tactics. Book when it suits you. Walk at your own readiness. The trails aren't going anywhere, and neither are we.

PhD in symbiotic relationships between fungi and ancient trees. Speaks fluent Latin botanical names. Will show you worlds invisible to casual observers.
Alpine & Desert Guide
Grew up on a cattle station in the Red Centre. Bush skills learned from Arrernte elders. Leads our most challenging walks with unflappable calm and dark humor.
Ornithologist & Wetlands Expert
Can identify bird calls most people don't even register. Patient with beginners, encyclopedic with enthusiasts. Her binoculars are older than most participants.
Beyond walking, we're committed to leaving these landscapes better than we found them. Ten percent of all bookings fund track maintenance and habitat restoration projects. We partner with Traditional Owners on cultural site protection. And we train the next generation of guides through our mentorship program.
This isn't charity. It's reciprocity. The land gives us livelihoods and purpose. We give back labor, resources, and voices for conservation.
Whether you're visiting Australia or rediscovering your own backyard, we'll show you layers you've never seen.
